Helen Belangie began studying cello at age eleven in a musical family. Her grandfather, a band director, and her mother, who studied voice at Mozarteum University, fostered her love of music.
She earned scholarships to study at Interlochen Arts Camp and Idyllwild Summer Music Festival before completing her Bachelor of Music at San Francisco Conservatory.
At the Conservatory, she won first prize in the Strings' Concerto Competition and earned recognition in several other competitions. She performed with multiple orchestras and participated in prestigious festivals including Aspen, Zephyr, Banff, and the International Musicians' Seminar in Prussia Cove.
She studied under renowned cellists including Steven Isserlis, Lynn Harrell, and Bonnie Hampton, with principal teachers Jennifer Culp, Irene Sharp, Jean-Michel Fonteneau and Alan Harris.
She has performed with several Bay Area orchestras including Monterey, Napa Valley, Santa Cruz and Fresno Symphonies, appeared at the Grammy's, and was invited to tour with the Percy Faith Orchestra in Japan.
Currently Ms. Belangie devotes her time to teaching and playing chamber music.
